Great post! I have been hearing similar from small town weekly and community newspapers in Canada. Keeping overhead low and a relentless focus on the community (which INCLUDES businesses who advertise) still seems a workable model after all these years.

Everything old is new again. Thanks for a refreshing reminder, and a bit of fun history therein.
